CAN IT BE MORE BeUTAHful?

This is my newest attempt at getting a snowy painting to feel like snow.  This painting is inspired by a hike up behind our neighborhood in Park City, UT.  A bright shiny bluebird day gave me bright lights and purple/blue shadows. I did an underpainting in acrylic in warmer tones and these colors are peaking out in between the color tones, which I like very much.  I feel it gives the painting more interest and life.

SUMMER BALES

POST OFFICE HAYFIELD

 This painting was inspired by a trip to our local post office.  Yes, we do live in the city, but there are still areas that have not succumbed to urban sprawl.  As I was getting out of my car, I noticed the hayfield adjacent to the post office had been cut and fresh round bales of hay were sitting there in the sunshine. I took a quick shot and the painting above is my take on the day.

MY ANCESTORS

German Village House

This painting is inspired by a trip to one of the historic areas of Columbus known as German Village.

It is in this area that many Germans settlers came to the new world and found work in Columbus and Franklin county.  This area harkens back to the days of narrow brick lined streets, small brick row houses, and tidy gardens. Though this house was not brick, it caught my eye because of the lovely garden in front. I can only imagine how lovely the garden in back must be.  And since most of my ancestors originated in Germany, I feel a certain closeness to these homes.

THINKING OF THE END OF SUMMER

AUTUMN BARN

This painting recently sold from the gallery where I have some of my work, Studios on High Gallery in downtown Columbus.  I titled it Autumn Barn and it got me to thinking of where I was when I took the photo it is based on.  Ohio still has plenty of rural areas and this barn was shining like a jewel among the gold and rust colored grasses.  I was being driven around an amish area of Ohio in Harden County.  I was being driven because I had just broken my arm in a really stupid bike wreck, and couldn't drive yet.  That was almost a year ago, and now I tool around in my car like nothing happened.  This painting and this barn make me thankful that I live in such a beautiful country that still has wonderful rural places to explore.  This painting also makes me thankful for my health, because a year ago, I was struggling.
