Winter Glow

This painting was inspired by a hike up into the Cottonwood Canyons near Salt Lake City, UT.
It was one of those bluebird days when the sky sparkled as much as the snow.  Walking through the forest was a spectacle in itself and we were treated to gorgeous views everywhere we turned.  I especially loved the quiet of the show covered terrain.  This painting is painted on a board with a black underpainting.

Distinguished

Click to Bid

This little Boston Terrier is ready to party, and he looks so distinguished in his red bow-tie.
I found his inspiring photo on the Morgue File and decided it was a good subject.  I liked his determined expression and wanted to take a stab at capturing it in a painting.  Many of my paintings start from photos,  and they are subjects that catch my eye in some way.  Most of the time, I change several things to make them a better compostition, and many times the color is adjusted. I have been experimenting with brightly colored underpaintings and find that I like the contrast, especially with simple subjects like this pup.

I found the photo reference for this painting on the Morgue File. I am a dog lover and though I am partial to larger breeds, I loved the expression on this little pups face. This painting is painted on a black toned board.

Mandarin Muse

This is a still life set up from mandarin oranges that I purchased at the grocery. I loved these oranges because they still had their beautiful leaves and stems attached. This piece is painted on a red toned gesso board.

I found the reference photo for this cute pup on the MorgueFile. His expression reminded me so much of our Labrador Retriever that died last year. He seems to be asking for something with those eyes, don't you think?

This piece is painted on a red toned gessoed board.

Daydreaming

Click to Bid

The inspiration for this painting came from my daughter's cat, who I sometimes get to catsit.  When he comes to our house,  he roams from room to room,  telling everyone his troubles.  Once he settles down, he peers out the window and daydreams and sleeps the day away.

This painting is painted on gessoboard that was toned in red.

Enjoy!!

...and Justice For All

Click to Bid

The inspiration for this painting came from an evening out with my husband. We were sitting on the patio of a restaurant as the sun was setting. As I turned around to look at the sun, I saw it glinting off a courthouse and the sun was peeking under some clouds. I caught a quick photo and the rest is history. Painted on a reddish toned board, you can see some of the red peeking through.  The diagonal  power line helps direct your eye to the focal point,  the courthouse tower.
